Introduction

The Gateway is a secure virtual appliance that contains instrumentation necessary to discover and monitor and manage IT resources, such as:

  • Switches
  • Routers
  • Firewalls
  • Storage arrays

Login accounts

The OpsRamp gateway has two user accounts, admin and ruser. Both accounts help in activities related to admin, configuration, and basic troubleshooting.

  • admin: This user account is used to access Gateway Web interface and Command Line Interface for admin activities, such as Registration, date and time change, and network setting.
  • ruser: This user account is used to access Gateway Command Line Interface to perform basic troubleshooting activities, such as ping and SNMP walk.

Gateway updates

OpsRamp publishes updates to firmware that runs within the gateway, on a regular basis. These updates are driven by security patches, bug fixes and new features. There are two types of firmware updates:

  • Minor updates that accompany OpsRamp releases. These are published roughly every 3 months.
  • Major updates that are published when the underlying OS behind the firmware goes on End-of-Life (EOL). Major updates are published roughly every 18 months.
